Period E and G- Finishing up Ebola Essays in IMC. Please be sure to have already created a thesis statement and found a relevant article. Today you will have viewed cdc.gov and continue to finish the body of your essay. It is due Friday.

Period C, D and F- Please log on to the Online Textbook. You will find Student Premium on the browser and search for Chapter 28 Section 28.2 Mechanisms of Homeostasis. You will click on Videos and click on Biology Video Clips. Watch each one of the videos (they are just over a minute long).

Your body try's to maintain homeostasis by changing your body to fit it's surroundings.It does this by either conserving heat or releasing sweat.Like when your run or work out your body sweats try to cool you down.Another way it maintains homeostasis is that is attempts to prevent mountain sickness with lack of oxygen.This is your body's way of maintaining homeostasis.

    The environment plays a role because when in a cold environment your body diminishes blood to conserve heat to keep you warm.Also if your in lack of oxygen your body slows down all processes to conserve the amount of oxygen used

  11. The human body is always trying to maintain homeostasis. One body part that does this is the brain. If the brain doesn't have the right amount of oxygen, it swells. If you the brain doesn't have the right amount of oxygen, you also can pass out.

  12. The human body can adapt to oxygen levels that are 1/3 that of sea level. Our bodies do this but it takes awhile. If you were to go into a room with 1/3 the air you normally breathe you would pass out. Our bodies also sweat to help maintain a normal body temp. sweat comes from our pores when we go through some form of exercise.

  14. One way your body maintains homeostasis is by adjusting to the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. As seen in the last video the men inside of the vacuum who gradually adjusted to the lack of oxygen while the scientist who entered pasted out and had to wear oxygen masks to maintain homeostasis as their body's hadn't adjusted yet. That is how your body maintains homeostasis.

  15. If you dont get enough oxygen to your brain, you can pass out. If your acclimatized to the thin air, you will be fine. The brain will swell if you dont get enough oxygen. Sweating is your bodys way of cooling down. When you work out, the sweat cools you down so you dont overheat. -Andrew Wagner

  19. One way our circulatory system help maintains homeostasis is regulating the flow of blood. When we are too hot, our blood vessels expand. The expansion, or dilatation, of the blood vessels aids cooling another way our body cools is by sweating. The exact opposite occurs when we are too cold. Our blood vessels contract when we are cold in order to conserve energy and heat.
    The environment, especially at high altitudes, helps to maintain homeostasis. When climbing a mountain like Everest, your body needs time to adapt to the thinner oxygen above the South Col. To acclimate your body to these lower levels of oxygen, you have to make many short trips up and down the mountains from camp to camp before making your Summit push. If you just tried to immediately tried to go directly above Camp 3, your brain and blood stream will start to shut down due to oxygen deprivation.   21. depending on the temperature and weather of the environment that your in your skin will react to maintain homeostasis. your body either sweats or keeps the heat to warm you up on the inside. without oxygen in your brain it will expand and swell. your body wants to prevent lack of oxygen. it also tries to prevent any sickness/illness your being touched with.

  24. Our body's are constantly trying to maintain homeostasis. When we get cold our skin contracts or tightens this is a way to hold heat in, and warm us up. Another way we hold heat in is when our hair stand on end, also know as goose bumps. When we get goose bumps our body's are stopping the blood flow and holding in heat. To cool down, we sweat. this allows the blood to flow freely and release heat when we are hot to cool down.

  26. Your body is trying to maintain homeostasis because it is trying to adapt to its environment. So when you are hot you body is trying to keep you cool and when you are cold your body is trying to stay warm. So when you go to higher altitudes and there isn't enough oxygen your bodies brain starts to "swell" and it's hard to think. An example is when you are climbing a mountain and there is lack of oxygen, your body tries to prevent you from getting sick. And when pilots go to high altitudes they cant think and start to get sick so their body stops them from getting sick.

When your at high altitude it can effect your brain and lugs.It can be vary deadly if you don't take your time and let your body adjust to your new environment it can also lead to death if your not careful.Another way your body reacts to the environment is you get goosebumps that's when your body is trying to shield you from the cold.

  29. When there are some parts of your body that are cold and some that are hot, for example sitting by a fire. You get cold chills down your back and thats your body trying to find homeostasis. Losing oxygen in anyway, such as climbing Everest, could cause this. A rapid change in temperature and rapid change in oxygen thickness can cause blood vessels to pop. Just like if you jump from a hottub to a pool in 3 seconds. Thats because your body needs to acclimatize to adjust to it.

  32. When we sweat it helps our body cool off. The lack of oxygen at a high altitude can cause your brain and lungs to swell. First signs on low oxygen starts happening in the brain. If you acclimatize to the certain altitude you can start doing things normally, if you just jump right into a certain altitude you will have trouble. Your body maintains homeostasis by adjusting the oxygen levels at certain altitudes.

I also learned that mountain sickness can mainly affect your lungs and your brain. How you get mountain sickness is when not enough oxygen get to your brain and you cant function properly. Your body also maintains homeostasis by adjusting the oxygen levels at certain altitudes.

When its extremely cold out our blood concentrates itself into vital organs, the blood also contracts to maintain heat. the lungs and brain swell when the air is too dense, you become slower the lower the air gets. the less oxygen for your lungs, the dizzier and less coordinated you get. if the air gradually decreases over time your body is able to used to it.

In 1920's a group of navy seals got tested in a facility that theoretically you do not need a gas mask to climb mount Everest. they were put in a concealed chamber and the air was decreasing very slowly. Eventuality the air was equivalent to that on mount Everest. to prove this they brought in a subject who did an excise. Within 2 minutes they passed out.but the people who were in there before were fine.

  38. Your environment can play a huge role with homeostasis in many ways. If your in a very cold spot the blood pressure in your body isn't going to run correctly. If I was near a volcano the front of me is very warm. But the back of me is trying to find homeostasis. My back would feel colder than the front of me. When part of my body is warm and the other is cold the body is trying to find homeostasis. If I was climbing a mountain and there isn't lots of oxygen the blood working to get air is affected by the cold. The body has to get used to the cold so it doesn't get acute mountain sickness.

  39. Our bodies are trying to maintain homeostasis.As it try's to adjust to the new climate and changes in environment and air pressure. In the summer when its extremely hot out, your body is creating sweat to keep you cool and regulate your body temperature. In the winter when its cold out your body is producing heat to maintain homeostasis as well as try to keep your body temperature normal. Your body reacts differently to certain environments and changes in air. For example when he was climbing Mount Everest he was moving alot slower than it would if you were at sea level.

The higher the air pressure the lower the oxygen you have in your body and you start to have a lack of oxygen to be able to breathe. In the winter your body is trying to keep you stay warm and in the heat, summer your body is trying to keep u cool. The higher you go up on mountains or for pilots They have to maintain their oxygen so their body wont get sick. When it is really hot out your body creates sweat that helps cool you down, that's its way of cooling down your body.

Our body can also warm our self from our blood flow in the winter or a cold environment. Another unique thing about the human body is that we can adapt to places such as the heat cold or even places with low oxygen. Most people need to wear oxygen masks when climbing mount Everest.

Say if your in Canada and its 30 degrees your body will try and warm up to maintain homeostasis in your body. Also if your in Chile and its 95 degrees your body will cool down to maintain body temp. Also if your climbing to the top of a tall mountain your body would need more oxygen are your brain would start to swell and you would die.

Your body tries to prevent you from getting sick. Your body sweats to cool down your body. You get goosebumps to help warm up your body whenever your cold.

  45. When your body is under going temperature problems it trys to fix it. One thing the body does is when its cold your blood vessels contract witch causes heat loss. Also your body will try and fix the unbalanced oxygen level. It does this by pulling out the oxygen from the air. you can learn to not live with as much oxygen. Your brain can get damaged without oxegen you can feel dizzy light headed pass out and even die

Also when you get higher in the air the air presser changes the way you think about things. when you have a change in air presser it changes the way you act and can do physical activity.

  47. the body needs time to adjust to specific environments to be able to maintain homeostasis like to make you warmer when its cold out and vice verse. by climbing the mountain slowly your giving yourself enough time to adapt and maintain homeostasis. like how pilots deal with fast hanging air pressures we see how this can effect the way we think and even make us lose consciousness like the pilot in training did after going straight from pure air to the limited amount of oxygen. like in the experiment the Americans conducted proving it was possible to limb mount Everest without oxygen.

All of these symptoms can occur when your climate increases. Your body due to the lack of oxygen can go out of its normal form which is homeostasis will cause your body's normal functions not to function properly.

The best cooling system is the evaporation of water on your skin. Another way is by goosebumps. When you are used to the air pressure at high altitudes you preform normally then to someone that just took off their oxygen mask at that high of an altitude.

The brain is where you first notice you have a low oxygen level. When you are at high altitudes you can damage your lungs and or brain.
